Q: What is the Password Change Utility?
A: The Password Change Utility is a web-based mechanism that allows you to manage your Lafayette password.
Password reset is enabled by setting an alternate email address in the system. If you forget your password, you will be emailed a temporary link to the alternate email address that allows you to reset your password.
Q: Why should I care?
A: The Password Change Utility gives you more control over your password. As ITS moves closer to a single sign-on environment, password control will be key to the security of your network resources. Single sign-on means that a user logs in once and gains access to many systems without being prompted to log in again at each of them.
Q: How do I add my alternate email address?
A: To set or update your alternate email address, enter your Lafayette NetID and password and follow the prompts to add or change the alternate email address.
Q: What if I don't enter an alternate email address?
A: If you forget your password or your account is disabled and need to reset the password, contact the Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org or (610) 330-5501. You will be contacted by an ITS staff member to schedule a time to reset your password.
Q: Can I change my alternate email address?
A: If you know your password you can log in and change the alternate email address. Please do this if you change email providers or stop checking the address you have provided.
Q: What else are my Lafayette credentials used for?
A: Your Network ID and password are used for email, Moodle, network storage, wireless, Skillman Mac login, the online directory and most other protected Web content. A complete list of systems and their credentials can be found in the help document Managing your Passwords.
Q: How often do I need to change my Lafayette password?
A: Lafayette passwords do not expire. However, it is good to change it regularly, like every three to six months, and anytime you think your password may have been compromised.
Q: What is a strong password?
A: A "strong" password is one that is more secure by virtue of being difficult to guess, both by an individual or a computer. Password strength can be achieved by incorporating at least 8 characters, mixed case, numbers and letters and at least one special character. As you enter a new password a strength indicator will let you know if the password is strong enough to be used.
Q: How do I change my current password?
A: If you know your current password, enter your NetID, current password, and a new password in the Change your Network ID Password form.
Q: I forgot my password. What should I do?
A: If you have already set up an alternate email address in the system, you can reset a forgotten password by entering your NetID. A temporary link will be sent to your alternate email address. You will have two hours to click the link and enter a new password. If you do not complete the reset before the link expires, you will need to repeat the process.
Q: I forgot my password and I haven't set up an alternate email address yet. What should I do?
A: Contact the Help Desk at email@example.com or (610) 330-5501 and you will be contacted by an ITS staff member to schedule a time to reset your password.
