What is Zoom Phone?

Zoom Phone is a cloud-based VoIP phone system that enables voice calls, voice messaging, and call management over the internet, integrated with the Zoom ecosystem. Using a computer, smartphone, or desk phone, participants can talk with each other. Key features like call queues and voicemail transcription make it a convenient tool for taking calls from anywhere.

How do I set my business hours?

  • Log into Lafayette.zoom.us with your Lafayette credentials.
  • On the left side of the screen click Phone to view settings.
  • Scroll to Call Handling
  • Click edit under Business Hours – business hours allow you to control when your phone rings, how calls are routed, and what happens outside of your set hours, including holidays and breaks.

How do I setup my voicemail?

  • Log into Lafayette.zoom.us with your Lafayette credentials.
  • On the left side of the screen click Phone to view settings.
  • Scroll to Call Handling
  • Navigate to Voicemail Greeting – click edit next to Greeting & Leave voicemail instruction.
  • You have three options for creating a greeting. These options appear under Edit and Add Audio.
    • You can type the text of your greeting and select an AI natural language voice to read it.
    • You can upload a pre-recording audio file.
    • You can create an audio file greeting on the fly.

How does ITS handle phone number assignments?

When applicable ITS will reassign phone extensions when available. ITS also keeps a pool of extensions available for newly created positions on campus.

Can I use Zoom Phone on my smartphone or tablet?

Yes, we suggest using the Zoom Phone function on your PC/Mac or the Zoom app on your mobile device. Simply download the Zoom Workplace app to do so.

I’m receiving spam calls. How can I reduce or manage these calls?

You can block specific numbers in the Zoom Phone settings to prevent future calls from those numbers.

Go to the “Phone” tab in Zoom, find the spam call in your call history, click on the three dots next to the number, and select “Block.”

Can I fax with Zoom Phone?

Yes, with the transition to Zoom Phone, every faculty and staff member with a dedicated extension now has the ability to send and receive faxes directly through their Zoom application. This e-fax service allows you to manage faxed documents from your College-issued computer or mobile device without needing to visit a shared copier or standalone machine. This digital-first approach ensures sensitive documents are delivered directly to your secure account rather than being left in a public area.
