I tried to log in and it didn't work, what gives?

What is a persona?

A persona is a fake user account with which we can test various applications. Apart from not corresponding to a real person, a persona account is imbued with all the attributes of a real user account. For example, when you log in to Moodle as a student persona account you will see the platform as a real student would see it.

How do I get a persona?

To request access to a persona account for testing purposes, please contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501. You will then be provided with the persona’s Lafayette NetID and password.

FOR WHAT LENGTH OF TIME CAN I USE A PERSONA?

A persona’s credentials can be used for the amount of time requested by the faculty or staff member at the time of the initial request. After this time, the persona’s credentials will be changed and the persona will no longer be accessible. If the persona is required for a length of time beyond the initially provided end date, please submit a new Help Desk ticket with the updated deadline.

Please note: each persona’s account credentials are updated on a bi-annual basis for security purposes. If you happen to have checked-out a persona within this time period, you will be notified and provided with the updated credentials.

How do I use a persona?

You can log into the persona account the same way you log into your regular account. Many faculty find it easiest to log into an incognito/private browser window, or in a different browser than the one they usually use. This allows you to more easily switch between your regular account and the persona account by switching between windows. You can enroll the persona account into a Moodle course.

IMPORTANT: It is strongly advised that you revoke access to any services (Moodle courses, website access, etc.) utilized with the persona prior to the predetermined end date. After this period, you will not be able to log in with the user to make any changes or modifications with their account.
