What is a persona?

A persona is a fake user account with which we can test various applications. Apart from not corresponding to a real person, a persona account is imbued with all the attributes of a real user account. For example, when you log in to Moodle as a student persona account you will see the platform as a real student would see it.

How do I get a persona?

To request access to a persona account for testing purposes, please contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5000. You will then be provided with the persona’s Lafayette NetID and password.

How do I use a persona?

You can log into the persona account the same way you log into your regular account. Many faculty find it easiest to log in within an incognito/private window, or in a different browser than the one they usually use. This allows you to switch easily between your regular account and the persona account by switching between windows. You can enroll the persona account in a Moodle course as you would manually enroll any other student.

Please be aware that due to technical limitations we currently provide all faculty members with access to the same persona account. This means that any other faculty member who has requested a persona account will be able to log in and see everything the persona has access to. This includes the contents of any Moodle course in which you have enrolled the persona.

For this reason we suggest you unenroll the persona after you are finished testing.
