ITS maintains two podcast studios in Skillman Library, Room 007 and 008. Built around the RØDECaster Pro fully integrated podcast mixer, both rooms are capable of making quick, simple recordings or high-production podcasts with pre-recorded clips, sound effects, and more with up to four participants.

In addition to the audio system, the podcast studio in Room 007 is now equipped with video capabilities! This studio creates an immersive experience using three wall-mounted video cameras that use an AI “director” to cut among the cameras and include installed lighting.

How do I use the Video Podcast Studio (Room 007)?

Once you’ve reserved the studio (see below), we recommend reviewing the audio and video equipment available in the space (see above) to understand how to utilize the equipment in the room. In addition, you can also watch our short video demonstration of the space.

Please do not touch or move the installed lighting and camera equipment in the studio.

  1. Close all the black curtains along the track. This will give you a solid black backdrop for your recording.
    1. Be sure to roll the curtains back over the doorway as new participants are joining you. Otherwise, the curtains will get caught in the door.
  2. Locate the power switch under the middle of the table. This turns on the studio lights and the cameras. Keep the room lights off.
  3. Connect two USB cords to the right of the RØDECaster Pro mixer to your computer. This connects the audio and the video to your computer for recording.
  4. Launch your preferred video recorder (we recommend using Kaltura, our media creation and storage platform) and make sure the audio and video settings are set to the correct source.
    1. Video = Huddly Crew
    2. Audio = RØDECaster Stereo
  5. Start to record!
  6. If using Kaltura, there are many ways you can share your audio content. Please review our Audio & Media help documentation to learn more.
