The Kaltura Media Assignment allows for instructors to collect Kaltura media for viewing from students as an assignment in Spaces or Moodle. Note: The media is only viewable by the instructor but remains in the students’ My Media accounts and cannot be downloaded by the instructor.

Adding a Kaltura Media Assignment

  1. Select the “Edit Mode” toggle in the upper right to begin editing the course site.
  2. Choose the topic block to which you would like to add your video resource and click Add an activity or resource.
  3. Select “Kaltura Media Assignment” in the Activity Chooser.
  4. Type a title for your assignment and other information such as a description and due date.
  5. The “Grade” section will allow you to add grade information to the assignment.
  6. Click [Save and return to course] or [Save and display].

Submitting a Kaltura Media Assignment

To begin, either create media with Kaltura Capture or upload a pre-existing media file to Kaltura:

When submitting media to a Kaltura Media Assignment:

  1. Navigate to the assignment and click the [Add media submission] button.
  2. A new window will open with all of your Kaltura media listed, select the appropriate media with the [Select] button.
  3. Wait for the media to load (preview shows the video and ‘play’ button), choose options such as including the title, description, etc, and click the [Embed] button.
    • Note: If you do not wait for the media to load fully in this window, you will get an error upon clicking [Submit media]. If you did not wait for the media to load but have not yet submitted it, you can fix the submission by reloading the page in your browser and redoing the Embed steps.
  4. Click “Submit media”
  5. After successfully submitting the assignment, you can change the submission by clicking the [Replace media] button and repeating the steps for submitting.
