ITS maintains a site license for MATLAB that allows for its installation on Student, Faculty, and Staff computers as well as Academic Computer Labs, and Smart Classroom podium computers. Free training on MATLAB is available from the MathWorks website.

Installing MATLAB

On my College-owned device

Faculty and Staff may install MATLAB using the Software Center for Windows or Managed Software Center for Macs.

If you do not see it listed in Software Center, please contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501.

On my personal device

download the installer
  1. Log into the MathWorks website.
    • If you don’t have a MathWorks account, click the Create button under Create a MathWorks Account.  Fill out the form to create the MathWorks account.
    • If you have a MathWorks account, Sign in using the Lafayette credentials at the sign in when prompted.
  2. Once logged into your MathWorks account, choose the installer that matches your computer’s operating system.
Install and activate MATLAB
  1. Locate the downloaded MATLAB installer, unzip it, and install it following the prompts.
  2. Enter your Lafayette email address and click Next. You will then be prompted for your Lafayette credentials.
  3. Accept the license agreement.
  4. Select MATLAB (individual).  Select the default destination.
  5. Select the products you want to install, then follow the prompts to install them.
  6. Once the application is installed, launch MATLAB.  Click Sign In located in upper right part of the MATLAB screen.  Sign in using your @lafayette email address and Lafayette credentials when prompted.

Updates will be provided via the Software Center for Windows or Managed Software Center for Macs.

On my personal device

Updates can be downloaded from the MathWorks website.

The license on your personal device auto-renews every August, for as long as you have an active Lafayette account. If your license is not auto-renewed, contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501.

Create or VERIFY mathworks account
  1. Log into the MathWorks website.
    • If you don’t have a MathWorks account, click the Create button under Create a MathWorks Account.  Fill out the form to create the MathWorks account.
    • If you have a MathWorks account, click the Sign In button under Sign in to your existing MathWorks Account.  Enter your @lafayette email address and Mathworks password when prompted.
ACCESS MATLAB online
  1. Go to https://matlab.mathworks.com/ and sign in using the MathWorks account you created above.
