The Password Change Utility is a web application that allows you to manage your Lafayette NetID account.

The ability to set or reset your NetID password is achieved by adding a recovery email to your NetID account. If you forget your password, you can have a reset link sent to your recovery email on record.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add my recovery email?

To set or update your recovery email, log in using your NetID and password and follow the prompts to add or change your recovery email.

What if I don’t have an address other than my Lafayette email to use for a recovery email?

You can create a free email account with providers such as Gmail.

What if I don’t add a recovery email?

If you don’t set a recovery email, you won’t be able to reset a forgotten password without the assistance of ITS.

If you forget your password and need to reset it, please contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501. Someone in ITS will contact you to schedule a time for you to reset it.

Can I change my recovery email?

If you know your password, you can log in and update your recovery email. Remember to do this if you change email providers or stop checking the account for the recovery email you added.

What can I do with my Lafayette credentials?

Your NetID allows you to access Lafayette Gmail, Google Workspace, My Lafayette, Moodle, wireless and wired computer networks, and many more. Single sign-on (SSO) applications use the NetID and password. There are a few services that use alternate credentials. Lists of services are available on the Help site.

How often do I need to change my password?

NetID passwords do not expire. However, it is a good practice to change them regularly, such as every three to six months, or anytime you think your account might have been compromised.

How do I change my current password?

If you know your current password, go to Change your NetID Password and enter your NetID, current password, and a new password.

What constitutes a strong password?

A strong password is difficult to guess by both a person and a computer. The strength of a password increases the longer it is. NetID passwords should be a minimum of eight characters – the longer, the better – and contain mixed-case letters, numbers, and one special character. As you enter a new password using the password utility, an indicator will show whether it meets strength requirements.

I forgot my password. What should I do?

If you added a recovery email to your NetID account, you can reset a forgotten password. Enter your NetID into the form and a link will be sent to your recovery email. You will have two hours to follow the link and set a new password. If you don’t set a password before the link expires, you will need to repeat the process.

I forgot my password and I haven’t set up a recovery email yet. What should I do?

Contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501. Someone in ITS will contact you to schedule a time for you to reset your password.
