Where is Mathematica?
- Wolfram Research has renamed Mathematica to Wolfram Desktop.
Wolfram Desktop (formerly known as Mathematica) is a symbolic mathematical computation program, sometimes called a computer algebra program, used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields.
ITS maintains a site license for Wolfram Desktop which allows for the installation on Student, Faculty, and Staff computers as well as the Public Computer Labs, Academic Computer Labs, and Smart Classroom podium computers. There is also a browser based cloud version available.
Faculty and Staff may install Wolfram using the Software Center for Windows or Managed Software Center for Macs.
If you do not see it listed in Software Center, please Contact the Help Desk.
Wolfram is available on Amazon AppStream, you can use this in your browser without installing it. See our Apps Catalog for a full list of software available on AppStream. You can also download and install Wolfram on your personal device.
Launch the application and activate by logging into with your Lafayette credentials if prompted clicking the Sign in button under the Activate through your organization (SSO) section of the Wolfram Product Activation window. This will activate Wolfram on the computer until September when the license renews annually. You may need to log in again after this date.
On college-owned lab computers, classroom podiums, and AppStream, activation is not needed. A license server is used to manage the license for these devices.
Updates will be provided via the Software Center for Windows or Managed Software Center for Macs.
If you do not see the latest version listed in Software Center, please Contact the Help Desk.
Updates can be downloaded from Wolfram by entering your @lafayette email address at https://www.wolfram.com/siteinfo.
The license on your personal device auto-renews every August, for as long as you have an active Lafayette account. If your license is not auto-renewed, contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501.
