ITS maintains a site license for Stata/SE that allows for its installation on Student, Faculty, and Staff computers as well as the Public Computer Labs, Academic Computer Labs, and Smart Classroom podium computers.

Installing Stata

On my College-provided device

Faculty and Staff may install Stata using the Software Center for Windows or Managed Software Center for Macs.

If you do not see it listed in Software Center, please contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501.

On my personal Windows device

Stata is available on Amazon AppStream, you can use this in your browser without installing it. See our Apps Catalog for a full list of software available on AppStream. You can also download and install Stata on your personal device.

  • Download the Stata Installer for Windows and enter your Lafayette credentials when prompted.
    • At the “No preview available” message click Download
    • When you see a message that “Google Drive can’t scan this file for viruses” – click Download anyway
  • Locate the file named “Stata.exe” downloaded in the previous step and double click it.
    • If you see a Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device window, click Yes to continue.
    • If you see a Windows protected your PC window, click the More info link at the top of the window and click the Run anyway button that appears on the bottom of the window to continue.
  • After the installation is complete, a Stata folder should appear in the Start Menu.

On my personal macOS device

  • Download the Stata Installer for Macs and enter your Lafayette credentials when prompted.
    • At the “No preview available” message click Download

    • Choose the location to save the file and click Save
  • Locate the file named “Stata.pkg” downloaded in the previous step and double click it.
  • Click Continue when the “Install Stata” window opens.
  • Click Install next.
  • Enter your Mac’s system username and password.
  • Click Close to finish the installation.
  • After the installation is complete, a Stata folder should be listed in Applications.

The license on your personal device expires every July and requires users to reinstall the application.
