This guide is designed to help graduating students transition their technology for life after Lafayette.
Alumni retain their Lafayette Google account until the February following their graduation. This includes Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and other Google Workspace services.
If you have used your Lafayette Gmail account for other services such as your LinkedIn account or as an email contact for graduate school applications or on resumes, you will want to update your contact information to use a personal email address.
If you do not have a recovery email set or need to update your current one, see the Manage your Recovery Email section for more information. Your recovery email is used to reset your Lafayette password if you don’t remember it.
As a Lafayette alum, you can set up a forwarding address to show your ‘Pard pride. Follow the instructions on the Alumni Email Forwarding help page. Note that alumni forwards do not redirect messages sent to student Gmail accounts. They are only vanity addresses you can give to your contacts that will forward their messages to your personal email account.
Yes, you can use Google Takeout to transfer your My Drive and/or email inbox content to a personal Gmail account. Instructions can be found on Transferring Content with Google Takeout.
Yes, you can transfer the ownership of a Google My Drive file or folder to someone else at Lafayette. Use the instructions found on Change the owner of a Google Drive file.
Note that if you have been working with a Faculty member on research, this data should be moved to a Google Shared Drive owned by the Faculty member rather than changing ownership.
If you are the manager level role for a Google Shared Drive, make sure that there is another person with the manager level role on the drive. If necessary, add a new manager following the instructions in the “Add members and set access levels” on the Getting Started with Google Drive help page.
You can export a copy of your personal WordPress site on sites.lafayette.edu by following these Export instructions. and then importing it into your own WordPress site.
Note: In order to successfully import the content into a new site, your Lafayette site must be set to be Public in the Privacy settings. Because you will lose access to your site upon graduation, you need to do this prior to account termination.
If you no longer want to keep your WordPress site, contact the Help Desk at help@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5501.
You can set your site to only be visible to administrators of the site in the Privacy settings for your site.
You may secure your OneDrive data in several ways:
In Microsoft365, you are unable to transfer ownership of a file or folder from within OneDrive, but there are some tools that will help you copy files between accounts. mover.io is as tool that will allow you to do just that:
You will have access to your Lafayette email for a limited time after graduating. If your resume includes your Lafayette email address, be sure update it with a non-Lafayette email address of your choice. Be sure to check the Gateway Career Center information for alumni for career related services.
If you have saved content to the Adobe Creative Cloud using your Lafayette Adobe account, you will need to follow these instructions for manually migrating your Adobe assets to a personal Adobe account.
